Say no to rape and support women "its still happening"

April 21 2021 , Written by ODIGWE ANSELEM Published on #Abuja, #AfricaNow, #AppleMusic, #Channelstv, #ENDSARS, #Lagos, #NTA, #Nigeria News, #Nigerians, #covidnigeria, #worldnews, #nigeriacelebrities

Every excuse made to justify rape would for ever remain what they are – lame excuses. A pretext does not excuse a misdemeanor anymore than ignorance absolves guilt in law.

The debate over sexual assault or what constitutes it has gladly moved from the closet to the rooftops of social discourse. Sex is one aspect of humanity that involves every living being but that for so long has been spoken of in whispers. By bringing it up in the public sphere, we are breaking the glass ceiling. The ultimate aim should be to move beyond awareness and debate to finding remedies and proffering solutions.

Everyone knows someone who knows someone who has been sexually assaulted or has been a sexual predator or an abuser. We don’t need saints to break the ice and condemn what is bad in society.

That we are publicly debating and campaigning against rape is a big change from the Nigeria of decades ago. It is exciting to know that things are gradually changing in our society. This change is brought by the outrage over the incessant stories of rape involving traditionally vulnerable members of our society – women, children and the elderly. Although hardly spoken of, men and boys are as much aggressors as they are victims.

People are coming out of the closet to discuss issues that a few decades ago could not have been mentioned at homes because they were considered taboo subjects. Social and mainstream media have become the priests that people are turning to for confession. Government and law enforcement is taking these things seriously. Yes, the National Assembly has rejected calls for castration of rapists, but even that is advancement at some level. Years ago, lawmakers would have been too squeamish to even debate the issue. With the right pressure especially from our female lawmakers and a little help from societies that have traversed these routes, we could find the punishment that fits the crime.

A free society is one in which nothing is taboo. No subject on God’s planet should be shielded from public debate. For this reason was man created with brains. We should not be afraid to use it.

Sexual crimes have been swept under the carpet for so long that people of little minds now find excuses for the crime. Many victims have been shamed into keeping quiet leading to severe mental health issues. Victim blaming is a sad aspect of our culture that is in dire need of reform.

From homes to schools, faith houses to the workplace, victim blaming has helped the perpetrator and destroyed the life and psyche of the victim. It has emboldened the criminal. An emboldened criminal transforms into a serial offender. Early exposure could have helped tame many a monster. As a society, we have shielded the criminal for mundane reasons, one of which is that we do not want the shame brought to a family, a religious group or an organization. Unfortunately, our country is fast inching towards becoming the rape capital of Africa.

Leaders at all levels of the social strata have often helped in covering up this level of criminality. It is becoming obvious for those who have any modicum of respect that things need to change.

In the modern world, sexual offences are not statute barred. That means that whenever a victim feels confident enough to face their perpetrator, they could initiate criminal proceedings. This is well documented in many high profile cases both in Nigeria and abroad.

Relevant Nigerian agencies are talking of establishing sexual offenders’ register. This helps not just a victim but also potential victims. In most parts of the modern world, sexual offenders are required by law to register their presence when they move from one area to another. There may be difficulty policing this in Nigeria where homes have no addresses and states are still debating who qualifies as a citizen. Failure or hitches must never prevent us from experimenting and amending as we go along.

Every effort aimed at protecting the girl child from harm is a required step. Women are the preservers of life. Unfortunately, they are often the least protected in our society. We must keep this debate on the Bunsen burner until such a time when all victims irrespective of their gender (but most especially the girl child) are confident enough to walk and talk conscious that society listens, empathizes and protects them.

We should take this debate and the campaign to such a level that anyone having sexual liaison with anyone else consciously asks themselves whether they would feel comfortable if their actions become public knowledge.

The lame excuses of nudity or indecency, alcoholism or walking late are fatuous. Primitive man lived with decency without clothing and without assuming rights over the body of their partners. Only the weakest use alcohol or drugs as excuse, because inebriation in itself does not push anyone to commit a crime. In most cases timid and warped people use substances use or abuse as an excuse.

We must get to that level where people understand what consent means; who could give it and under what circumstances. Once these becomes part of the culture, then those who realize they need help would seek the help they need early enough rather than assume that they’ll be protected for their action or addiction.

The debate is late in coming, but as our elders say; whenever a person wakes up is their morning. Let’s keep talking, and saying it loud and clear – say no to rape!

Prophet TB Joshua's Youtube channel closed after he delivered woman from "GAY/LESBIAN" spirit

"Deliverance in Jesus' name," he shouts as Mary falls to the ground after several touches and slaps from the leader.

In another separate video, on a different day, Mary and her family went back to the church to give a testimony. "From a tender age I have always been masculine. The spirit grew in me. I tried fighting the spirit with my physical strength. That is why I came to the synagogue to seek deliverance. The spirit destroyed my life," she says in front of thousands of church attendees. Mary testified that she was now in touch with my feminine side.

"You are saying that right now your affection is towards the right direction?" he asks Mary, who nods.

OpenDemocracy claimed it is behind the closure of TB Joshua's YouTube account.

"Between 2016 and January 2020, the channel posted at least seven similar clips showing the charismatic Christian televangelist engaging in violent exorcism," they said in a statement."

TB Joshua has been carrying on with his church services in Nigeria despite the suspension of his channel, Emmanuel TV on YouTube. The channel had almost 2 million subscribers.

"What happened is a blessing. I want you to help me pray for Youtube," he said in response to the shutdown during a church gathering where congregants were receiving "new anointing water and a sticker

European Super League: Florentino Perez says matches are too long for today's youth

April 21 2021 , Written by ODIGWE ANSELEM Published on #Abuja, #AfricaNow, #AppleMusic, #Channelstv, #ENDSARS, #EPL, #Englishpremierleague, #NTA, #Lagos, #Nigeria News, #NigeriainDiaspora, #Nigerians, #bet9ja, #worldnews, #sportsnews, #nigeriacelebrities

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants you to trust his vision for a new world order in the realm of soccer which not only includes radical changes to the current competitive structures brought on by a European Super League, but could also include changes of a similar degree to the game on the pitch itself. As he hinted in an interview on Spanish television Monday, Perez notes that the games are simply too long.

The quote comes in the context of some hackneyed concern over "the youth" not paying attention to the product he's trying to sell, the oldest excuse in the book to rip up a well-liked formula. As expected, his claims were connected to why the Super League was actually a good thing and not simply a blatant cash grab.

"Football has to change and adapt," he said, per ESPN. "We have to analyze why young people, 16-to-24-year-olds, 40% of them aren't interested in football. Why? Because there are a lot of low-quality games, and they have other entertainment platforms.

"It's a reality. They say the games are too long. We have to change something if we want football to stay alive. Sometimes we don't understand our children or grandchildren. They're different generations, the world changes. If young people don't watch an entire game, it's because it isn't interesting enough, or we'll have to shorten the games ... There are matches that even I can't watch all of them, to be honest."

The comments are consistent with the belief that the sport is purely a business entity that needs saving before it becomes obsolete. In addition to these comments, he argued that there are too many games in general, and that this new league can realistically coexist with the UEFA domestic competitions.

Whether one agrees or not with Perez simply does not matter given the influence he has over the club he chairs, arguably the most recognizable in the world, and the Super League of which he's the chairman and a driving force. Take, for example, what manager Zinedine Zidane said -- or rather what he chose not to say -- about the Super League on Wednesday when the topic came up.

"We don't even talk about it. We only talk about one thing, the game tomorrow," Zidane said.

"I'm here to talk about the game tomorrow, the league, the Champions League. The rest isn't my job. I won't give you my opinion. I understand, you can say I don't say what I think and don't say anything. Why? Because my job, what I'm doing, that's what I enjoy. The rest ... what good does it do?"

Similar non answers have been given by other managers asked about the Super League after its creation. If something so wildly unpopular can yield that kind of submission, the question now becomes just how far the people in charge of this stuff will go.

Donald trump have critized Biden for not making his troops withdrawal from Afganistan earlier

April 19 2021 , Written by ODIGWE ANSELEM Published on #Abuja, #Channelstv, #ENDSARS, #Nigerians, #NigeriainDiaspora, #nigeriacelebrities

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday praised withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan, while knocking his successor's timeline for doing so.

Though the former President offered his support of President Joe Biden's plans to bring home American troops, he urged his successor to draw an end to America's longest war well before the September 11 that Biden set last week. Trump noted he had set a May 1 withdrawal deadline and said that "we should keep as close to that schedule as possible."

"I wish Joe Biden wouldn't use September 11 as the date to withdraw our troops from Afghanistan, for two reasons. First, we can and should get out earlier. Nineteen years is enough, in fact, far too much and way too long," Trump said, adding: "September 11 represents a very sad event and period for our Country and should remain a day of reflection and remembrance honoring those great souls we lost."

Trump is the latest former commander in chief to weigh in on Biden's plan, with both former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama having spoken to Biden ahead of his announcement last week. Obama praised Biden's decision to end the nearly 20-year war, which has spanned all four administrations.

Biden said the withdrawal of American troops will begin on May 1, in line with the agreement the Trump administration made with the Taliban. Some US troops will remain to protect American diplomats, though officials have declined to provide a precise number.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani told CNN's Fareed Zakaria in an exclusive interview on "GPS" on Sunday that he supports Biden's decision to pull US troops out of the country, saying the move "radically changes" the context of the situation in the country, the region and the Islamic world. He added that his "entire energy" is now focused on working in that new context.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan insisted earlier Sunday that US objectives had been achieved in Afghanistan, though he stopped short of saying the US "won" the war there. Instead, he told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union" that the US must now focus on the battles of the "next 20 years" rather than the last 20.

"The terrorist threat has changed dramatically over the last 20 years," he said, citing the spread of al Qaeda to Syria, Yemen, Somalia and ISIS in Iraq.

"Against that dispersed and distributed terrorist threat, we need to allocate resources in a way that allows us to protect the homeland against a variety of threats from a variety of countries and continents, not just Afghanistan."

Bishop David Oyedebo: Declares He won't take COVID-19 vaccine as he clearly stands on His faith.

April 18 2021 , Written by ODIGWE ANSELEM Published on #Abuja, #Channelstv, #ENDSARS, #covidnigeria, #livingfaithchurchworldwide, #livingfaithgoshen, #bishopdavidabioye, #nigeriacelebrities, #Nigeria News

The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide aka Winners’ Chapel, David Oyedepo, says he won’t take COVID-19 vaccine jab, adding that he is not a guinea pig.

The cleric stated this on Saturday during the church’s Covenant Hour of Prayer programme.

He said, “I have never seen a generation where you force people to take vaccines. It is inhuman; it is immoral sir. I’m not a lawyer but I don’t think it is legal. You can’t come to my house and want to give me injection.

“On what? Did I invite you? They are confused. But the church has the answer. Did you see any outbreak of virus here? How will it enter the gate? Will it come through the air? How? One woman just got down after that injection in Kaduna. What kind of life? Are human beings now turned to guinea pigs?

“The world is confused but the church is lighted. So the triumph of the church will humble the pride of the world. They don’t know what to do sir. In the last days, the church will be reigning in power and glory. That is God’s agenda.

No apologies. There is a big, big bird in our land, saying ‘don’t take it, they are deceivers’. Let me see someone who will come and inject me. By who? Are you going to tie my hands? How? Did I invite you? I know you are quiet, you will hear more of it. My job is to expose the devil and tell his agents, ‘get off, we are not guinea pigs’.”
